Our Story

 

Westlands Lakes is a family run fishing destination set within 50 acres of peaceful, picturesque countryside. From the very beginning, our aim has been simple: to create a tranquil, well kept venue where anglers of all ages and abilities can enjoy nature, good company, and quality coarse fishing.  What started as a small idea has grown into a much loved spot for local anglers and visitors from across the region.

 

Over the years, we’ve invested in our lakes, our fish stocks, and our facilities to ensure every visit feels rewarding, whether you’re chasing a new PB or simply enjoying a quiet day by the water.

 

Our lakes are carefully managed, our surroundings thoughtfully maintained, and our team is always on hand with friendly advice. Whether you’re here for a few peaceful hours or a full weekend escape, Westlands offers a fishing experience that feels personal, calm, and genuinely enjoyable.

Frequently Asked Questions 

What are your fishing hours?

Summer: Fishing is allowed from 6:00am to 9:00pm. 

Winter: Fishing is permitted from 7:00am to 4:00pm.

Please note: No fishing is allowed before dawn or after dusk at any time on our day‑ticket lakes.

Anglers may be checked on the banks during these times.

 

Do I need to book in advance?

No, day tickets do not require booking. 
Match bookings, group visits, and pod stays should be arranged in advance. 

 

What species can I catch?

Across our six lakes you’ll find:

Each lake has its own character and stock profile. 

 

Which lakes are best for match fishing?

Several lakes are ideal for matches: 

  • Middle Lake – consistent weights, suits pole, waggler, and tip, 34 pegs.
  • Little Tench Lake – high match weights, up to 330lb, 25 pegs.
  • Canal Pond – tactical fishing with 32 pegs, weights up to 150lb.
  • Islands Lake – regular match weights exceeding 150lb, 23 pegs.

Match bookings are welcome, please call to reserve. 

 

I’m a specimen angler - where should I fish?

  • Middle Lake  does allow specimen anglers with carp up to 20lb. 
  • Big Tench Lake holds plenty of carp, ranging from 15lb to 30lb.
  • Syndicate Lake is our premium specimen water, home to carp up to 40lb along with roach, bream, and tench. Membership operates via a waiting list, managed through our tackle shop. We also offer two lakeside pods, available for public booking.

 

Do you have a tackle shop? 

Yes, our onsite Tackle & Bait Shop is one of the largest in the area.  We stock a wide range of tackle and bait for all fishing disciplines, including lakes, rivers, and sea.

  • Rods, reels, and terminal tackle 
  • Pellets, ground bait, and hook baits 
  • Pole rigs, floats, and accessories 
  • Nets, luggage, and fish care equipment 

Our team is always happy to help with advice. 

 

Are there toilet facilities?

Yes - clean, well maintained toilets are available for all visitors. 

 

Is food available?

Cold drinks and confectionary are available to buy from the onsite shop

 

Is parking available?

Yes, we offer easy access car parking close to the lakes. 

 

What baits are allowed?

To protect fish health, please follow our bait rules:

 

Fishery feed pellets only (Available from our on‑site Tackle & Bait Shop)

 

Hook baits are generally unrestricted, except for the following:

  • Meat baits
  • Pet food meats
  • Artificial baits (including rubber or plastic imitations)

Additional rules

  • Ground bait must be fed using a pole cup or feeder only
  • No fixed leads or feeders - all rigs must be inline and free‑running

Do I need to dry or dip my nets?

All landing nets must be fully dry before fishing. 
 

Can I bring a group or book a match?

Absolutely, we welcome club matches and group bookings. 
Middle Lake, Tench Lake, Little Tench Lake, Canal Pond, and Islands Lake are all suitable. 

 

Can I bring my dog?

Please check with us before bringing a dog. Pets are allowed by prior arrangement only. 

 

Are children allowed?

Yes, but no children under 14 may fish or be on the banks without an accompanying adult. 

 

Do you allow night fishing?

Night fishing is only permitted on Syndicate Lake, and is exclusively available to Syndicate members and guests staying in our lakeside pods.

 

Do you offer any discounts?
